Our ambassadors play a vital role in supporting the mission of the Mary O’Gara Foundation. Through their voices, experiences, and commitment, they help raise awareness, promote education, and support the ongoing effort to prevent suicide among young people. We are proud to work alongside individuals who share our passion for making a difference.
John Billington (John Billy) has lived in the Sherwood area of Preston for over 30 years with his wife Shelley and family.
When we looked to pick a third ambassador for the Foundation from our local area, who as a community have supported the Charity in so many ways over the years, John stood out as an obvious choice.
John has always been a great advocate of what we are trying to achieve around improved Mental Health support, and improved suicide awareness and prevention across our communities.
It’s fair to say John is pretty well known and that few, if any, get past him without a quick chat, a welfare check and usually the sharing of a tale or two.
John is a true football supporter following North End the length and breadth of the country always supporting us too, spreading the word of Mary’s Foundation. When asked about becoming an ambassador for the Foundation, John said he was both honoured and yes proud to support us.
Alan Kelly was born and raised just a stone’s throw from Preston North End Football Club—so it’s no surprise that football runs in his blood.
His father, Alan Kelly Sr., is Preston’s record appearance holder, and Alan followed in his footsteps as a goalkeeper when he began his professional career at the club in the mid-1980s.
Over the course of his career, Alan played and coached in more than 1,000 professional games. He represented clubs including Sheffield United, Blackburn Rovers, and Everton, as well as the Republic of Ireland national team. He earned 34 international caps and was part of squads that qualified for two FIFA World Cup finals.

After representing many clubs a highlight would be being part of the Liverpool title winning squad and the world club cup and super cup victories.
